Šťáhlavy lies in the valley of the Úslava River, about 14 km south-east of Pilsen. The village was first recorded in 1239.
The Classicist hunting château of Kozel, near Šťáhlavy, dates from 1784–1789 and is a national cultural monument administered by the National Heritage Institute. The Renaissance château of Šťáhlavy, dating from 1548, stands in the village and was later enlarged in the Baroque style. The three-domed Church of St Adalbert in Šťáhlavy has been the parish church since 1813.
